The Perth Amboy Police Department has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Ziyare Palmer, 24, following a violent domestic assault that took place the night of April 14 under the Victory Bridge.According to a statement released by Perth Amboy officials, authorities were called to the scene around 11:15 P.M. after receiving distress calls about a man yelling for help.
Upon arrival, officers found a 39-year-old male from Woodbridge with significant slash wounds and a severely injured hand.
Police provided critical first aid at the scene before the victim was rushed to a local trauma center for advanced care.
After a thorough investigation, detectives identified and arrested Palmer on charges including first-degree attempted murder, as well as weapon and motor vehicle theft offenses.The arrest took place at approximately 1 PM today, and Palmer is currently being processed for transfer to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.
Perth Amboy Police said initial social media reports inaccurately suggested a related homicide and carjacking, but police have clarified that the incident was a targeted domestic assault, posing no further threat to the public.
Chief of Police Lawrence Cattano emphasized the severity of domestic violence and urged those affected to seek immediate assistance, providing the National Domestic Violence Hotline number for confidential support.
