Authorities have successfully apprehended 23-year-old Eudys T. Santios-Toribio of East Orange, New Jersey, following a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi announced that Santios-Toribio was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred earlier this year.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of January 1, 2024, near the intersection of Market Street and East 33rd Street in Paterson, resulted in a 25-year-old woman from Prospect Park suffering a non-fatal gunshot wound.
She was later treated at St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson.
Following an investigation led by the Paterson Police Department Shooting Investigation Unit, the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Santios-Toribio was identified and subsequently arrested.
Santios-Toribio faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count of possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose.The prosecutor's office has also indicated plans to file a motion for pretrial detention.
While the criminal complaints against Santios-Toribio are severe, it is important to remember that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
