The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Soverel Park, East Orange, on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Investigator said East Orange Police were called to the scene just before 4 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Mr. Amir Giles with multiple gunshot wounds within the park boundaries, located off Springdale Avenue.
Emergency responders rushed Giles to University Hospital, where he tragically passed away from his injuries at around 5:15 p.m.
The shooter fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear, and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.
They continue to gather evidence and are urging anyone with information to come forward to help solve this case.
