A male victim was declared deceased following a violent shooting incident on Monday evening.
Around 9:17 p.m., police were summoned to 297 South 6th Street after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire and alerted authorities.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male with bullet wounds.
The Shooting Response Team and EMS were immediately called to the scene. The victim was quickly transported to University Hospital for treatment; however, despite the medical staff's efforts, he could not be saved.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been informed of the incident and will take the lead in the ongoing investigation.
No arrests have been made, and the community around South 6th Street is left seeking answers in the wake of this senseless violence.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding this deadly encounter.
