A shooting incident in Newark's West Ward on Friday afternoon resulted in one person being injured.
Newark Police responded to reports of gunfire at the intersection of Smith Street and Silver Street around 1 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers found evidence of the shooting. The victim, whose injuries are currently unknown, was quickly transported to University Hospital for treatment.
The Newark Major Crimes Shooting Team has been called to assist with the investigation.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no arrests have been made.
The investigation into this incident is actively ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
The Newark Police Department urges anyone with information about the incident to come forward to aid in their investigation.
