A man seeking emergency treatment at a hospital for a bullet wound late Thursday evening has prompted a Newark Police investigation into a shooting incident in the city's South Ward.University Hospital officials alerted authorities at around 7:45 p.m. after the victim arrived with a gunshot injury.
Police quickly began piecing together the events that led to the shooting, identifying the location of the incident near 179 Leslie Street.
The Newark Shooting Response Team was dispatched to the scene to aid in the investigation, where a weapon was subsequently recovered.
However, details regarding any suspects or arrests have yet to be disclosed.
The victim's injuries were not reported as life-threatening at this time. Despite this, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a possible motive, remain unclear.
Newark Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident, calling for anyone with information to come forward as they work to understand the sequence of events leading to this violence.
