Good morning! Although the worst of the recent severe weather has passed, North Jersey is still feeling the aftermath as of 4:30 a.m.
The storm, marked by steady rain and vigorous gusts, has moved on, leaving behind a trail of uprooted trees and nearly 28,000 homes and businesses without power.
Thankfully, utility companies are making headway in restoring services across the affected areas.
In Newark, temperatures hover just above freezing, and while the relentless rain has ceased, the area, along with the broader North Jersey region, can expect scattered showers throughout the day.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 30% chance of showers before 11 a.m. and after 2 p.m. today under mostly cloudy skies with highs near 50 degrees. Winds will blow from the northwest at 9 to 11 mph.
Tonight, NWS forecasters say the chance of showers increases to 50%, primarily before 2 a.m., with lows around 37 degrees.
Commuters should be cautious, especially in Northern NJ, where flooded roadways pose risks as rivers begin to crest.
