A tragic incident occurred this morning in Newark’s Central Ward, resulting in the death of a pedestrian near a local supermarket.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the deadly collision that occurred near the Food Depot located at the intersection of First Street and Dickerson Street.
Authorities were alerted to the situation shortly before 11 a.m. following reports of an individual lying unresponsive near the aforementioned location.
Emergency response teams rushed to the scene, where they discovered the victim had sustained severe injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
Despite the immediate response, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fatal strike is active and ongoing, with officials seeking to determine the cause and any potential culpability associated with the incident.
