In a judicial development on Friday, March 8, 2024, Kareem Allen, 29, man from Orange, was sentenced to 13 years in state prison for the aggravated manslaughter of 30-year-old Malcom Webb of Newark.
Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, alongside Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca and Police Director Earl Graves, announced the sentencing, which took place in Union County Superior Court under Judge Thomas K. Isenhour.
Allen, who must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, had entered a guilty plea for first-degree aggravated manslaughter on January 23, 2024.
The case stems from an incident in the early hours of April 3, 2021, when Elizabeth Police Department officers discovered Webb with severe injuries on Dickinson Street following a report.
Assistant Prosecutor Jillian Reyes detailed that the fatal assault occurred after a verbal dispute in a local Elizabeth restaurant.
Allen, Webb, and others left the venue, at which point Allen got into his vehicle and intentionally hit Webb, leading to the victim's death from the injuries sustained.
Union County Prosecutor Daniel expressed gratitude for the diligent efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Reyes, Homicide Task Force Detective Angela Concepcion, Sergeant Lamar Hartsfield, and the Elizabeth Police Department in bringing the case to a close.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and local law enforcement agencies to hold perpetrators of violent crimes accountable.
“Our thoughts remain with Mr. Webb’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Prosecutor Daniel, underscoring the community's continued support for the victim's loved ones.
