A police officer was among at least two individuals who sustained gunshot wounds during a situation in Hamilton Township on Friday night.
Preliminary information revealed that the incident -that happened near 1806 Orchard Avenue- has prompted an extensive investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
Headquarters received reports of an officer down just before 10:15 p.m., prompting the swift deployment of over a dozen units and detectives to the scene.
Upon arrival, reports said responders found a conscious and alert police officer with a bullet wound to his abdomen.
Additionally, another individual was discovered with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The wounded officer was transported to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery. As of now, the extent of his injuries remains uncertain.
Another officer was treated for trauma related to the incident.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether officers discharged their weapons during the altercation.
The motive behind the incident and the events leading up to it are currently under active investigation by law enforcement.
