Newark Officer Suffers Burns in Assault with Suspected Bleach During Apartment Entry

A Newark police officer was hospitalized with second-degree burns on Friday after being assaulted with a hot liquid, believed to be bleach police officials told RLS Media. 

Nino The attack occurred around 3:30 p.m. when police were called to assist the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) in entering an apartment located at Hawkins Street near Horatio Street, as stated by Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.

Upon attempting to gain entry into the residence, a female suspect reportedly threw the scalding liquid at one of the officers.

The injured officer was promptly transported to St. Barnabas Medical Center for treatment of the burns sustained in the assault.

Police said the suspect involved in this hazardous confrontation has been taken into custody.

The incident is currently under thorough investigation by Newark police. As of now, no additional details have been released regarding the condition of the officer or the circumstances leading up to the assault.
