The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office has been notified of an investigation into a fire that resulted in the death of one person inside a residence in Paterson on Thursday.
The fire erupted in the early morning hours, engulfing a two-and-a-half-story house located in the 60's block of Mercer Street at approximately 2:35 a.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with heavy flames engulfing the second floor of the wooden-framed structure.
Despite their swift efforts, it took crews less than thirty minutes to bring the blaze under control. However, upon conducting a thorough search of the premises, responders discovered an unidentified individual deceased inside the house.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by authorities, with no other injuries reported at this time.
