Newark police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Friday night in the city's Upper West Ward.At around 10:40 p.m., a ShotSpotter device designed to detect gunshots triggered an alert to local law enforcement about a shooting near the intersection of Sandford Avenue and Varsity Road.
Responding swiftly, police officers arrived at the scene to find several shell casings on the street. An extensive search was conducted, but no victims were discovered.
The Newark Shooting Response Team joined the scene, contributing to what has now become an active and ongoing investigation.Despite the nature of the incident, the immediate area has been deemed safe, with no injuries reported and no arrests made at this time.
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as they continue to piece together the incident.
