Newark's North Ward became the latest backdrop for the city's unsettling wave of violence, marking the fourth shooting incident in less than 24 hours. The shots fired episode happened early this afternoon near the intersection of Summer Avenue and Montclair Avenue, as police were alerted to reports of gunfire around 1 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers were met with the sight of property damage and several shell casings scattered across parts of the neighborhood.
A portion of the community was swiftly cordoned off as law enforcement conducted a thorough search for potential victims. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this latest incident of gun violence. The motive behind this shooting remains unknown, with investigations ongoing.
The gunman responsible for the disturbance managed to evade capture.
As the Newark Police Department continues its investigation, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
