Thursday night in Newark's Clinton Hill section turned tense as police were alerted to gunfire in the area. Crediting a ShotSpotter device, police were promptly notified of the shooting at approximately 9:37 p.m. near 840 South 11th Street.
Upon their arrival, police discovered ballistics evidence, signaling that shots had indeed been fired. Despite an extensive search of the vicinity, no victims were found.
Eyewitness accounts pointed to a black Chrysler 300 seen speeding away from the scene shortly after the shots rang out, suggesting a quick escape by the shooter.
The Newark Shooting Response Team was quickly on the scene, assisting in the investigation to piece together the events of the night.
As the search for the suspect continues, the community remains on alert and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help apprehend the individual responsible for this shooting.
