A double shooting in Newark's South Ward late this evening has left a juvenile critically wounded and another individual in stable condition, triggering a large-scale police investigation. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. near 827 South 14th Street, near Madison Avenue.
Police units responding to reports of gunfire discovered a young individual with a gunshot wound to the head and a second victim shot in the shoulder.
Both individuals were urgently transported to an area hospital for treatment. The arrival of a considerable number of family members at the hospital led police to call for additional support.
While the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been informed of the incident, there are currently no reports confirming a fatality.
At the crime scene, the Newark Emergency Service Unit is providing necessary lighting to aid detectives in their search for evidence and potential suspects.
As the investigation unfolds, no arrests have been made.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
