Officials said Newark Police were called to the 500 block of Ridge Street in the North Ward following reports of an armed carjacking.According to police, the incident, which occurred at around 12:31 a.m., involved a food delivery driver who was ambushed during a routine delivery.
The driver, upon exiting his vehicle to deliver food, was confronted by four individuals.
Police said the suspects forcibly took the car keys and removed a female passenger from the white 2007 Acura TSX.
Additionally, the passenger's cell phone was stolen by two of the suspects.According to the authorities, amid the chaos, one of the perpetrators threatened the driver with a knife before two of the suspects took off in the stolen Acura, last seen heading north on Ridge Street towards Delavan Avenue before turning left onto Lake Street.
The remaining suspects made their escape in a black jeep.
Newark Police officials are actively investigating this alarming incident and are in pursuit of the suspects.
They are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
