Residents in Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a comparatively warmer morning at 4 a.m., as temperatures around 35 degrees offer a welcome break from the recent frigid days.
While the area enjoys temperatures close to the seasonal average, The National Weather Service is reporting that a winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of North Jersey, including Sussex County, due to the potential for slippery roads as a winter mix will make its way through that part of NJ around 8:30 a.m.
Light rain and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark call for caution on the roads.
Today, NWS meteorologists say there's a 20 percent chance of rain after 3 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies.
The high is expected to be near 37 degrees, but it might feel cooler with wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees. The west wind, around six mph, will become calm in the morning, providing some respite.
Tonight, the chance of rain increases to 30 percent, mainly expected between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. The skies will remain cloudy, with lows around 34 degrees.
North Jersey residents should remain alert to changing conditions and prepare for a damp, cloudy day.
