There is an active investigation under in Newark’s South Ward neighborhood as a crime scene unit evaluates a shooting incident. A ShotSpotter device alerted police to multiple gunshots at 281 Keer Avenue around 9:17 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle struck in the glass by bullets. Police proceeded to secure the area, uncovering shell casings scattered in the street.
As a precautionary measure, nearby schools were placed on ‘shelter-in-place,’ ensuring student safety as authorities scoured the area for a suspect and additional evidence.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the gunfire.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their thorough investigation.
