Middlesex County authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on US-9 in Sayreville early Monday morning.
Around 12:50 a.m., police were alerted to an incident in the northbound lane near Bordentown Avenue.
Upon arrival, police and emergency responders discovered a severely injured individual, unconscious and unresponsive on the ground.
Despite immediate attention, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident prompted police to shut down all lanes on the highway as they launched a thorough crash investigation.
The circumstances leading to this collision remain unclear, with the cause of the crash still under investigation.
