Newark Police are looking into a shots fired incident stemming from an attempted robbery in the city's North Ward early Sunday morning.
Around 2:40 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Ridge Street after reports of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, police located an individual who reported an encounter with armed suspects.
According to reports, the assailants attempted to rob the victim, demanding personal possessions. In a bold act of self-defense, the victim managed to wrestle the gun from one of the suspect's hands, leading to a shot being fired during the skirmish.
Officers conducting a sweep of the scene discovered one shell casing, Despite the intensity of the encounter, no injuries were reported.
The suspects, however, managed to flee the scene and are currently at large as the investigation continues.
