Superintendent Roger Leon of Newark Public Schools has declared a snow day for all public schools in the Newark region this Friday, prioritizing the safety of students and staff in response to the impending snowstorm.The National Weather Service predicts challenging weather conditions, with an 80% chance of precipitation, snow accumulations between 1 to 3 inches, and temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, accompanied by a wind chill making it feel as cold as 20 to 25 degrees.
Winds from the northeast are expected to blow at a gentle 5 to 9 mph.
Irvington Township schools have also closed for the day.
With safety as the primary concern, the school district is taking proactive measures to ensure that students and staff are not exposed to the hazardous conditions brought about by the snowstorm.
The community is urged to stay safe and make the most of the day off.
