As the Newark and North Jersey region commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, residents are advised to bundle up in their heaviest coats.
The morning temperatures have dipped into the teens and 20s, with Newark recording a chilly 25 degrees at 4:30 a.m.
Although the breeze is lighter than on Sunday, temperatures are expected to barely reach the freezing mark throughout the day.
For Martin Luther King Day, the forecast from the National Weather Service indicates mostly cloudy skies with a high near 32 degrees. Wind chill values will hover between 15 and 25 degrees, accompanied by a west wind of 6 to 8 mph.
As the evening approaches, residents should prepare for snowfall.
Snow is likely to start after 1 a.m., with cloudy conditions and a low of around 28 degrees. The wind will be light and variable, shifting to the northeast at about six mph after midnight.
There is a 70% chance of precipitation, with new snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
As we reflect on Dr. King's contributions and partake in the day of service in his honor, remember to stay safe and warm in these wintry conditions.
