The Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund has opened its doors for grant applications for the year 2024. With a deadline set for Thursday, March 28, 2024, the Morris County Office of Planning and Preservation is gearing up to support the preservation of the county's historical heritage. To assist potential applicants in understanding the process, a Grant Application Workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The workshop will be conducted virtually via WebEx and can be accessed by clicking HERE.
Furthermore, a Declaration of Intent must be submitted by Wednesday, February 28, 2024, for those intending to apply.
Commissioner Deputy Director Stephen Shaw, liaison to the Historic Preservation Trust Fund Review Board, emphasized the importance of the program, which started in 2003 after a strong public vote in favor of dedicating tax dollars for this cause.
To date, nearly $50 million has been approved to aid the preservation of 123 historic sites across 34 towns in Morris County.
Eligibility for these matching grants is extended to historic resources listed or eligible for listing on the State or National Register of Historic Places. Municipalities, qualified non-profit organizations, and the county itself are welcome to apply.
Prospective attendees are encouraged to register for the workshop by emailing Ray Chang at rchang@co.morris.nj.us or by calling (973) 829-8138.
The workshop presents a valuable opportunity for applicants to seek answers to queries about project eligibility, types of previously funded projects, and specific application requirements. In a move to streamline the application process, the program is continuing to waive the requirement for paper submission for the 2024 grant applications, except in certain cases where specific documents have not been previously reviewed.
