Today's forecast from the National Weather Service offers a mild and quiet day, with temperatures around 44 degrees in Newark and cooler conditions in Northern New Jersey.
The region will enjoy mostly sunny skies, with a high near 46 degrees and a southwest wind blowing at 9 to 14 mph. Tonight, the weather remains mostly clear, with a low of around 33 degrees.
However, the serene weather belies a looming concern: the situation at the Passaic River.
Currently, all eyes are on this river, as it is not expected to crest until late Saturday evening.
This delay raises significant anxiety among local communities, particularly in Little Falls, Paterson, and surrounding towns along the Passaic River.
These areas are bracing themselves for possible flooding, with the river already swollen and another storm system on the horizon. This impending storm threatens to exacerbate the situation by dumping heavy rain on Northern New Jersey's already-engorged rivers.
In light of these growing concerns, Governor Murphy is set to assess the area around the Passaic River today.
