Police in Newark are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon near a local school.According to reports, officers were dispatched to 24 Crane Street just before 3:40 p.m. following reports of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, they discovered shell casings strewn across the street from Newark Global Studies High School.
As a precautionary measure, the high school was promptly placed on a shelter-in-place status while officers conducted a thorough search for any injured victims and additional shell casings.
The prompt response by the Newark Police Department ensured the safety of the students and staff within the school premises.
Witnesses reported seeing two black males fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting, heading towards Bloomfield Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.
Despite the swift action of law enforcement, the suspects involved in the shooting remain at large.
The Newark Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
