Newark Fire Department is investigating a fire that broke out in the Society Hill Condominium Complex, Central Ward, injuring one woman and displacing several residents.
The incident occurred around midnight in the 40's block of Cornerstone Lane, where firefighters were dispatched following reports of a unit fire.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a vehicle ablaze inside a garage. Thanks to the home's sprinkler system, the fire was primarily contained, but a significant smoke condition persisted.
A female resident received treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene.
Firefighters thoroughly searched the unit for any further fire spread and potential victims but found none.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist approximately a dozen displaced occupants.
The cause of the fire is under active investigation.
