Preliminary reports indicated that the chase began before 4:30 a.m. when police attempted to pull over a blue Charger with Florida plates, previously carjacked by the suspects.

In a bid to evade capture, the driver recklessly sped through various parts of Newark, including Maplewood and Irvington Township.

The pursuit eventually led to Chancellor Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue, where the car crashed. Remarkably, no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Following the collision, as many as four suspects fled from the car near Weequahic Park, with two juveniles being immediately captured by the police.

A vigilant resident from the 100 block of Wilbur Avenue alerted police after his home surveillance system detected two individuals behind his property.

Officers arrived at the location and detained one more suspect believed to be involved in the carjacking while the search continued for the remaining individual.

The apprehended suspects were taken to the hospital for evaluation of potential injuries, which were not life-threatening. No police officers were injured during the pursuit.

The incident is currently under investigation.
