Authorities confirmed that the driver, a 58-year-old Elizabeth man, of the tanker truck that caught on fire Tuesday afternoon in Woodbridge succumbed to his injuries.
The accident occurred sometime around 1:45 p.m. on the southbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 11 in Woodbridge, according to police.
The gasoline filled truck overturned and subsequently caught on fire.
The driver, identified as Carlos Vinciguerra-Gomez, was transported via Medivac to an area hospital after suffering burns to more than 90 percent of his body.
The fire was place under control at approximately 2:45 p.m. by Woodbridge firefighters.
