In a display of dominant basketball, The University Phoenix girls' team was crowned the 2023-2024 Newark Holiday Tournament champions.
The crowning ceremony was graced by Newark Public Schools Superintendent Roger Leon, members of the Newark Board of Education, and a Newark City Council members.
Hosted inide the Ronald Stone Gymnasium at Weequahic High School in the South Ward, the tournament was both festive and fiercely competitive.
The Lady Phoenix, led by star players Morgan Marshall and Paradise Fisher, showcased their skills, leading the scorers throughout the tournament.
Their performance often made the competition seem one-sided.
The team took an early lead and maintained a comfortable margin of over 15 points, much to the delight of the 1500-strong crowd.
Both Marshall and Fisher scored an impressive 14 points each, guiding their team to a decisive 54-31 victory over The High Central Blue Devils.
Congratulations to The University High School Phoenix and all the Newark Public Schools' girls' basketball teams for their spirited performances and sportsmanship.
