Newark Police are actively investigating a shooting in the South Ward that resulted in a woman being injured on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the vicinity of 62 Seymour Avenue.
Responding to reports of gunfire, officers arrived at the scene to find a female victim with a bullet wound in her back.
The injured woman was swiftly transported to University Hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the Newark Shooting Response Team worked diligently at the scene, gathering evidence to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
No other injuries were reported in the incident. However, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear and is the focus of an ongoing investigation by Newark Police.
As the inquiry continues, authorities are calling for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
