Elizabeth Police are intensifying their search for a suspect responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Fairmont Avenue and Newark.
Responding to the scene, police and EMS teams found a severely injured male victim on the ground.
The vehicle involved had struck the 67-year-old pedestrian and then fled the scene at high speed. The victim was immediately transported to University Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
In a significant development, Newark Police, while canvassing the city's South Ward, located the unoccupied vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
The discovery was made in the area of Hawthorne Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue on Saturday evening.
Despite recovering the vehicle, the suspect remains at large.
Elizabeth Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring justice for the victim and their family.
