Simmons Prepared Foods Inc., based in Van Buren, Arkansas, has initiated a significant recall of its TGI Fridays boneless chicken bites.
In a press release sent by company officials, the recall, encompassing about 26,550 pounds of the product, comes after reports of potential contamination with clear, hard plastic pieces.
This alert was issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The affected chicken bites, produced on October 3, 2023, are packaged in 15-ounce cartons labeled "TGI FRIDAYS BONELESS CHICKEN BITES HONEY BBQ CHICKEN."
Consumers can identify the recalled items by the lot code KL3K03 and a Best By date of December 26, 2024, marked on the carton's side.
These products also bear the establishment number "P-20287" inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed to retail outlets nationwide.
The recall was triggered following consumer complaints to the company about finding clear, hard plastic underneath the breading of the boneless chicken bites.
While there have been no confirmed incidents of injury or illness from consuming these products, the FSIS urges anyone concerned about potential health issues to seek medical advice.
With fears that some of the recalled products might still be in household freezers, the FSIS strongly advises consumers who have purchased these items not to consume them.
Instead, they should either dispose of the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
