A tense situation unfolded late last night in Newark's North Ward, where police responded to a shots-fired incident at a high-rise building.
The incident, which took place around 11:30 p.m., saw the activation of a ShotSpotter device near 555 Mt. Prospect Avenue, prompting an immediate response from the Second Precinct Police.
Upon arrival, officers focused their investigation inside and on top of the building. Reports say there, they discovered shell casings and initiated a thorough search of an apartment.
The search, which lasted several hours, was part of the effort to locate the weapon involved in the incident. However, it remains unclear if the gun was eventually found.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. The individual detained in connection with the shooting is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the motive behind the incident.
