Newark Man Convicted of 2021 Capitol One Bank Robbery on Springfield Avenue

Esau Grant, a 29-year-old Newark resident, has been found guilty by an Essex County jury for the robbery of the Capital One Bank on Springfield Avenue in Newark.AdThe conviction follows a one-day trial overseen by Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Arre.

According to Spokesman Robert Floriday, the incident, which took place on July 3, 2021,  was captured on the bank's video surveillance.

Grant robbed a teller by handing over a note threatening the use of a gun, demanding all the money from the register.

Complying with the demand, the teller handed over $2,300. Grant was apprehended and arrested by police just two days later.AdAssistant Prosecutor Ruddy A. Adames, who prosecuted the case, expressed gratitude to the jury for their service and delivering a just verdict.

Adames highlighted the importance of the teller's courageous testimony in court, contributing significantly to the outcome.

He expressed hope that the verdict would bring a sense of security to both the teller and the community.

Grant's sentencing is scheduled for January 26, 2024. He faces up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for second-degree robbery.

This verdict is seen as a testament to the effective functioning of the judicial system in dealing with criminal activities.
