A pedestrian was fatally injured after being struck by an eastbound train near Broadway Fair Lawn station at approximately 7:25 a.m.
NJ Transit official said The Bergen County train, which was not in passenger service and was being moved along the line, collided with the pedestrian under circumstances that are currently under investigation.
Officials said the accident resulted in no injuries to the crew, and there were no passengers aboard the train at the time of the incident.
This unfortunate event has led to a temporary suspension of rail service in both directions between Plauderville and Ridgewood on the Bergen County Line, affecting numerous commuters and rail service in the area.
New Jersey Transit police have taken the lead in the investigation to determine the details surrounding the accident.Efforts are being made to understand how the collision occurred and to implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, New Jersey Transit advises passengers to seek alternative routes or modes of transportation.
Service resumed shortly after the incident.
