Mountainside Police are currently investigating a serious incident where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle earlier today.

Responding to reports of the incident, police officers found a 27-year-old man from Elizabeth in the roadway, evidently suffering from severe injuries.

Preliminary investigations, bolstered by witness statements, indicate that the victim, who was working as a landscaper and operating a leaf blower, stepped onto the road right before the collision occurred.AdThe driver of the vehicle, a 94-year-old resident of Mountainside, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the authorities.

Mountainside Police officers quickly administered a tourniquet as a life-saving measure to the victim prior to the arrival of emergency medical services.

In a critical response, the victim was airlifted to University Hospital in Newark by a New Jersey State Police helicopter.

He is currently reported to be in stable condition.

The severity of the injuries has led to an extensive investigation, with Union County Police contributing to the effort.

They provided laser measurements and mapping of the accident scene to assist in the investigation. As of now, the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be shared as they become available.

The Mountainside Police urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with their inquiries.
