Bloomfield Police took a Newark woman into custody following her involvement in a shoplifting incident that transpired last week.
The incident happened at 8-12 Franklin Street (Marshall's). Officers were promptly dispatched to the scene in response to a shoplifting in progress report.
Upon arrival, officers received information from Loss Prevention staff indicating that three females had entered the store and proceeded to fill large bags with various clothing items.
Bloomfield Police officials said the total value of the stolen merchandise amounted to a substantial $1,288.
The situation escalated when Loss Prevention personnel informed the responding officers that two of the three females involved in the shoplifting had made a hasty exit from the store on foot.
They then reportedly jumped into a white Nissan Altima and promptly sped out of the parking lot.
Quick thinking and keen observation by the officers led them to spot Ms. Temerra Herd, a 36-year-old Newark resident, exiting the store.
Police said she was seen in possession of bags similar to those used in the shoplifting incident.
Acting swiftly, the officers intercepted Ms. Herd and conducted a thorough examination of the items she was carrying. It was subsequently confirmed that the articles in her possession were indeed the proceeds from the shoplifting incident.
Bloomfield Police said Herd was promptly taken into custody and processed according to the law.
This apprehension serves as a testament to the dedication and vigilance of the Bloomfield Police Department in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
Shoplifting incidents like these not only impact retailers but also have broader repercussions on the community at large.
