UPDATE: Swift-Responding Newark Firefighters Rescue Senior Man Trapped in Apartment Fire

Quick-moving  Newark firefighters are being hailed as heroes after their rapid response saved the life of a senior man trapped inside his apartment during a fire this morning in the city's Upper West Ward.

OfficersThe incident happened around 7:30 a.m. when firefighters at a nearby firehouse at the junction of Sanford Avenue and Palm Street received urgent reports about a fire at the Mary Villa senior citizen home.

Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters sprang into action, recognizing the imminent danger.

Smoke was coming from a fifth-floor apartment located in the corner section of the building.

Newark's bravest firefighters forced their way into the apartment, swiftly extinguishing the fire. Their heroic efforts also led to the successful rescue of the senior citizens trapped inside.

The victim was promptly transported by EMS  to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway, authorities are examining whether smoke alarms alerted other residents in the building.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to anyone else involved in this incident.

The prompt and courageous response by Newark's firefighters highlights their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of their community.
