BREAKING: Gunman Fired Rounds at High School Students During Fire Drill in Newark

Police are currently at the scene of a harrowing shooting incident at Central High School in the Central Ward‘s 17th Avenue section, resulting in at least one student sustaining serious injuries.

AdPreliminary information reveals that around 12:25 p.m., during a fire drill for a gas leak, an armed suspect opened fire, discharging rounds at students who were outside the school building.

The sudden eruption of gunfire caused panic and sent scores of students and school security personnel scrambling for safety.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene and discovered a male student suffering from gunshot wounds,

The victim was immediately rushed to University Hospital for urgent medical attention, although the extent of his injuries remains undisclosed.

As of 12:35 p.m., we could only positively confirm one victim.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been alerted, and a comprehensive investigation into the incident is actively ongoing.
