Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes has reported the arrest of Mr. John McFadden, a 28-year-old resident of Paterson, in connection with a homicide that occurred on October 1, 2023, in the vicinity of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson.
The arrest comes as a result of a thorough investigation conducted jointly by the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
Officials said Mr. McFadden faces serious charges, including Murder in the first degree, Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose in the second degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun in the second degree.
The incident in question unfolded on October 1, 2023, at approximately 6:36 a.m., when the Paterson Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Park Avenue and East 22nd Street.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim, Eric Boone, a 19-year-old resident of Paterson, with multiple gunshot wounds.
Tragically, Mr. Boone succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at St. Joseph's University Medical Center.
During the course of the investigation, detectives gathered evidence that led them to identify John McFadden as the alleged shooter.
John McFadden is currently awaiting his initial appearance at Central Judicial Processing.
The State plans to file a motion for pretrial detention against Mr. McFadden, which will be scheduled for a hearing before a Superior Court judge at a later date to be determined by the court.
