Officers of Essex County PBA Locals 382 & 183, responsible for public safety in the county, are grappling with a contract dispute that has spanned seven years.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, these dedicated men and women continue to protect and serve the community, but their concerns are growing.
In a county that holds the distinction of being the most crime-ridden in the state, Essex County law enforcement officers face immense challenges.
The community observed courageous detectives from The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office enter dangerous neighborhoods in Essex County and investigate crime scenes while danger looms over them during the process of finding justice for grieving families and friends of homicide victims.
Essex County officers and detectives are responsible for addressing two-thirds of all criminal matters statewide, and the Essex County Correctional Facility is known as the most violent county jail in New Jersey.
Union leaders say despite the demanding nature of their work, officers report minimal training, outdated equipment, and critically diminished staffing levels.
They stand united in their dedication to keeping the community safe.
Essex County PBA Locals 382 and 183 is now calling on their community to show support and let county leaders know that public safety should be a top priority.
Officers are advocating for fair contracts that acknowledge their commitment to safeguarding Essex County.
