On Monday, October 23, at approximately 1 p.m., Newark Police were swiftly dispatched to BRICK Avon Academy, located at 219 Avon Avenue, in response to a concerning bomb threat call.
In a coordinated effort, Newark Police officers, in collaboration with members of the Essex County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, conducted a meticulous examination of both the school's interior and exterior premises.
The urgency of the situation led to a thorough sweep of the entire facility, with trained K-9 units assisting in the search for any potential threats.
Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said parents, students, and staff anxiously awaited news as authorities diligently investigated the situation to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
After a comprehensive inspection, it was determined that the bomb threat call was, in fact, a false alarm. The relief of students, parents, and school personnel was palpable as they received confirmation that there was no imminent danger.
As of now, this incident remains under investigation, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to identify the source of the false public alarm.
