Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll reported the sentencing of Brian Kozub, a 39-year-old resident of Chatham Township, in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on July 4, 2023.
Prosecutor Carroll said Kozub had previously entered a guilty plea to second-degree Aggravated Assault before Judge Taylor on September 19, 2023.
The conviction stems from a troubling incident that unfolded on Independence Day in Chatham Township.
At 10:50 p.m. on July 4, 2023, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office received a report of an alleged stabbing at a residence on Buxton Road. According to authorities, Kozub was charged with stabbing a 51-year-old male victim in the neck using a pocketknife.
The incident occurred during what was supposed to be a Fourth of July celebration. Regrettably, the victim suffered severe bodily injuries due to the stabbing.
Kozub has been in custody at the Morris County Correctional Facility since his apprehension.
On October 24, 2023, the Honorable Stephen J. Taylor, P.J.Cr., handed down a sentence of five years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to 85% parole ineligibility as per the No Early Release Act.
In this case, Kozub has been ordered to have no contact with the victim.
The successful prosecution of this case was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Contributions came from the dedicated members of the Chatham Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, all of whom worked tirelessly to bring about justice in this matter.
