On Tuesday evening, Newark police responded to an armed carjacking in the South Ward just before 7:50 p.m. in the 20's block of Clinton Place.

According to the victim, several armed individuals confronted them, brandishing a firearm and demanding their 4-door gray Mercedes Benz GT-4. The car in question reportedly had a New Jersey license plate number "T50-PNA."

Police quickly responded and tracked the stolen vehicle to the 100 block of Bergen Street shortly after the incident. However, their attempts to stop the car were met with resistance.

The driver sped through several traffic lights and stop signs, with several suspects inside, taunting the pursuing officers.

According to initial reports, the pursuit led cops down Clinton Avenue, where the suspects eventually abandoned the stolen car in the area of Ellis Avenue and 21st Street.

The Irvington Police and Essex County Sheriff's Office were summoned to assist in a foot pursuit, reports said.

All three suspects were apprehended, and a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported. The suspects now face multiple charges, including felony carjacking.

The Newark Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
