Authorities in Newark's Central Ward are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Monday night.
Around 10:20 p.m., a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the vicinity of 288 South Orange Avenue near Littleton Avenue. Police swiftly responded to the scene and discovered evidence confirming that a shooting had taken place.
However, their initial search did not reveal any gunshot victims in the area.
While officers continued to canvass the scene, officials at the nearby University Hospital contacted the police regarding a gunshot victim who had arrived in the emergency room.
It is believed that this individual sustained their injuries during the South Orange Avenue incident.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the incident and gather further details.
