The incident unfolded just after 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, when Linden Police Officers responded to the area of Dill Avenue and Adams Street following the activation of a Raven gunshot detection device.

The Officers quickly identified Mr. Wazir Davis, 29, walking away from the area, and they attempted to stop him as he crossed E. St. George Avenue.

Ignoring the Officers, Davis fled across the street and into an apartment building.

Roselle Police Officers, who were already in the vicinity, followed Davis into the building.

Following a brief struggle, Davis was apprehended on the second floor of the building.

A subsequent search of his apartment led to the discovery of a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with hollow point bullets.

Davis had multiple active warrants from Union and Roselle and now faces a slew of charges, including second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a firearm.

Additionally, he has been charged with third-degree resisting arrest, fourth-degree possession of hollow point bullets, and fourth-degree eluding.

He has been remanded to the Essex County Jail pending a scheduled appearance in Superior Court.

A thorough search of the area by officers revealed no evidence of a shooting incident.

Linden Police Chief David Hart expressed his appreciation for the dedication and commitment of his officers in taking criminals off the streets and reducing violent crime in the community.
