Residents in Newark and its neighboring areas should prepare for a wet Saturday as rain and thunderstorms are expected to dominate the weather forecast.

The National Weather Service said the region is set to experience showers, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.

The day will begin with patchy fog before 11 a.m., with a high temperature near 69°F. While the southeast wind will blow at a moderate 6 to 15 mph, it is expected to shift to the northwest in the afternoon.

According to The National Weather Service, there's a 100% chance of precipitation, with new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Around 3:55 a.m., drenching rain fell in the Harrison, Kearny, and East Newark areas. This downpour is an early indication of what's to come periodically through the day.

Localized flooding is a concern, with heavy, intermittent rainfall potentially causing impassable roads, particularly in the Wilson Avenue and Avenue P section of Newark's Ironbound neighborhood.

NWS forecasters said the rainy conditions will likely persist into Saturday evening, with showers likely until around 8 p.m. The night will bring gradual clearing, with a low temperature of around 47°F and a northwest wind at approximately ten mph.
