Authorities are investigating an incident in Newark's South Ward where a man was discovered with a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Police found the unidentified man in the vicinity of 263 Clinton Place around midnight.
The victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound, was promptly transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.
At the scene, law enforcement recovered a weapon, which is now part of the ongoing investigation.
While initial findings suggest the gunshot wound may have been self-inflicted, detectives are working diligently to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As the investigation progresses, no other injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry.
