Authorities in Passaic County announced the arrest of Amir Sikder, 22, of Paterson.
According to authorities, Amir Sikder was arrested without incident on October 5 in Totowa by members of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office Public Integrity Unit.
Authorities say Mr. Sikder was charged with one count of third-degree Access and Disclosure and one count of fourth-degree Stalking.
A third-degree crime carries a maximum sentence of five years in New Jersey State Prison; a fourth-degree crime carries a maximum sentence of eighteen months New Jersey State Prison.
According to officials, the investigation was conducted by the Wayne Township Police Criminal Investigations Division and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Public Integrity Unit.
It is alleged that the defendant, while employed as a police officer with Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department, used a law enforcement database to obtain personal identifying information about the victim.
According to officials, he then used that unlawfully obtained information to commit the crime of Stalking in Wayne Township.
Stalking is purposefully engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to fear for their safety or the safety of a third person.
The investigation in this matter remains ongoing.
